Description
Vallisneria spiralis, often simply called "Val," is a timeless aquarium staple. With its tall, ribbon-like leaves and easygoing nature, it’s perfect for adding movement and background height to planted tanks. Despite the name spiralis, its leaves are typically straight—though some may show a gentle twist.
It grows fast, spreads by runners, and creates a lush, grass-like forest at the back of your tank. Great for filling in space, providing shelter for fish, and soaking up excess nutrients—all with very little effort.
Care and Planting Directions
Plant the roots gently into nutrient-rich substrate, leaving the crown exposed. Vallisneria prefers moderate to high light and grows quickly under the right conditions. It doesn’t need CO₂ but appreciates regular fertilization. Trim or thin out runners to keep it tidy, or let it form a wild green jungle.
